WHAT IS TOUCH?
Touch refers to games derived from rugby league in which players do not tackle in the traditional, highly physical way, but instead touch their opponents using their hands on any part of the body, clothing, or the ball.
The sport of Touch requires very little equipment, its easy to learn, and anyone can play whether you're 5 or 50. Touch's other unique factor is it's a family game. Kids, their parents and even grandparents can all participate in the same team!
As a result it is a popular game from the very social to the highly competitive.
There are mens, womens and mixed grades. Teams are made up of up to 14 players, and have 6 players on the field at one time, with the ability to sub on and off at will.
At Junior level, most teams entered in the Modules are school teams. However at Adult level unlike most sports, Touch has no formal Club structure for players to 'join'. There are Modules which are the weekly competitions which are all independently run under the umbrella of Touch North Harbour. Most of the competitive 'Clubs' hand pick there teams, while the majority of other more social teams are just a bunch of friends, or family that put there own team together.
Touch North Harbour are working on an Adult 'Learn to Play Programme' and a service to put teams together. Keep your eye on the 'Learn to Play' section below.
Alternatively players can have their details added to the 'Join A Team' table below. Teams looking for players can look at the table and contact individuals to join their team.
